You Again

Chick Flick with a Great Message About Friends and Some Serious Laughs
This flick was cute in the previews and delivers even more than it promised in the full-length film.

After years of healing success and maturity post high-school, Marnie aka MOO, finds out that her brother is marrying her nastiest high-school tormentor. With no time to process the information or put on full body armor, Marnie is thrown into the situation just days before the wedding. Joanna, oddly, doesn't even remember Marnie the queen-of-geeks and has gone on to become a perfect blend of Martha Stewart and Mother Teresa. Or maybe not!

Chick-flicky, yes. But its more about friends, enemies and the painful art of growing-up. The movie contains a few cheesy moments and a few underdeveloped relationships because the cast of characters is huge. But, it's respectful of friendship, forgiveness, character and marriage. Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver are delightfully amusing and seem to enjoy every bit of working together in this film. There is a scene at the end...

the funniest movie of the year -- well written, acted and emotional
I see a lot of movies and one of the movies that really surprised me the most is YOU AGAIN. It is so well written, so well acted and just left a smile on my face throughout the entire movie because it was so hilarious -- yet it was also so heartfelt -- these characters are really likeable people and the situations they get into is just so well done. I highly recommend this movie. Hands down the best comedy of the year -- and by the way -- it got a cinemascore (the people who first saw the movie) gave it an A and if you look on boxofficeguru.com, people also gave it an A.

It's superb.

HILARIOUS!
I saw "YOU Again" when it was in theaters and I have to say it was one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. And it is not just a chick flick! I'm a guy in my 20's and me and my friends all enjoyed it. If you like physical comedy, you'll love this movie. Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver are top notch. So, if you want to laugh, buy this DVD.

CA$H: The Root of All Evil

An actual review of the film CA$H and not Amazons streaming service
My love for independent film, and great actors drew me toward this flick. Sean Bean always delivers..and in this one it's twice as nice. Sean Bean plays a set of brothers (possibly twins but one looks shorter and skinnier than the other.) One of whom has been recently incarcerated after a 'job' that took in over five hundred thousand dollars. The incarcerated one calls his brother, also Sean Bean to find retrieve, and split the money with him. The money was thrown out of the window during a police chase and the only thing they know is that it hit a white station wagon with wood panel siding.
The writing in this movie is not the most original, but Sean Bean, Chris Hemsworth, and Victoria Proefeta turn in excellent performances that draw you into the sometimes unbelievable situation and give you free reign to suspend your disbelief. Cash at it's core is a story of personal morals, survival, and humanity that is wrapped in the vestiges of luck violence and fear. I enjoyed...

Obsessive Compulsive --CA$H
Obsessive compulsive behavior can be hazardous to your health even if you're a bad guy like Sean Bean. This is one of the oldest crime story ever told i.e. the straight guy ends up with the bad guys money and the bad guy wants it back. This one, however, has a twist: the bad guy is a number guy who has O.C.D. and will not settle for anything less than every penny he is owed. In the process he turns the straight guy and his wife into bad guys like himself. I really liked this movie even when it slowed down a little in the middle, because it was a trick they played on the audience. They were setting us up for a big change in the straight couple's character and a surprise ending. There were little flaws in the movie like; Bean practicing Yoga and smoking like chimney, calling the Illinois DMV the Chicago DMV,and a cop-out repayment plan to some of the victims especially to their jerk of a banker. But, by and large this is a very good crime movie with an exceptional ending.

Good twist, but some annoying, weird, sloppy and undeveloped elements...
I had to suspend disbelief quite a few times to be able to get into this movie. There are so many movies and novels about "found money" that I can't imagine that many couples would be stupid enough to quit their jobs, and start spending it immediately and without regard on a $70K Range Rover and a house full of new furniture. Everyone knows to lay low and spend it slowly and not attract attention. The bad guy is able to track them though the presumption that they would immediately buy a new car, and even though he is new to town somehow finds another bad guy who not only sells guns but also happens to have the keys to the DMV(!!!) (What!?!) so he can pull the records on all recent "cash" vehicle purchases. And for some reason the couple gives the wife's mother half the money in a Christmas box for safekeeping!?! Why? Never heard of safe deposit boxes? Floor safes? Jeez.

I still don't get why they couldn't get another actor to play Sean Bean's brother. Stunts like that just...

Phantoms

Phantoms (1998)
Director: Joe Chappelle

Cast: Ben Affleck, Peter O'Toole, Rose McGowan, Joanna Going, Liev Schreiber, Nicky Katt, Clifton Powell.

Running Time: 91 minutes

Rated R for science-fiction violence, gore, and language.

Dr. Jenny Pailey (Joanna Going) is bringing her younger sister, Lisa (Rose Mcgowan), home from L.A. to the small quiet town of Snowfield, Colorado. It's a peaceful environment to live in, with a population of 400, and the town has some nice ski resorts that make it a popular site during the summer. Upon returning, however, they discover everyone either missing or dead, with bodies that have a strange gooey look to it. They try to leave, but find their car and every other vehicle in town dead. Exploring further, they enter a bakery, where they encounter Sheriff Bryce Hammond (Ben Affleck) and his two deputies, Shanning (Nicky Katt) and Stu Wargle (Liev Schrieber). As they look further into town, they discuss what could have...

Good Adaptation
I think this is a good adaptation of Dean Koontz's book. As for scary, anyone that thinks "The Village", "Final Destination", "I Saw What You Did Last Summer", or "Blair Witch Project" are scary but think that "Phantoms" is bad, you just don't have a clue. The suspense slowly builds with no clear goal of how to destroy the creature. Excellent music helps build the suspense. If anything is lacking in the movie, it is the creature.

The creature is not quite as good as it could have been with a larger budget. My guess is they didn't want to spend alot of money on CGI. It is still well done and the acting is definitely good. The directing, camera work, and sets are good too. The camera work reminded me of some of Hitchcock's work. All-in-all certainly worth more than the five dollars and ninety-nine cents I paid for the DVD.

Affleck was the bomb in phantoms.
Word, b****, Phantoms like a motherf***er!

Due Date (2010)

This isn't the Hangover 2!!!!
I'm so tired of reading reviews of people saying "it's not as good as The Hangover". It's not the Hangover!!! It's not the sequel to the Hangover, it's not the same storyline as the Hangover, in fact, it's got nothing to do with any kind of Hangover. Due Date may be directed by by Mr. Phillips of Hangover fame and star Galifinakis of the same, but this is a completely different movie with a different plot. If you want to watch another version of the Hangover the sequel comes out this summer, but if you want to enjoy an engrossing comedy starring two great entertainers, watch Due Date. When you watch this, please, I beg of you, don't measure it by The Hangover. Do you measure Field of Dreams by Dances With Wolves? Do you measure Mad Max by Braveheart? This is it's own movie separate from all others.

Wonderful Fantastic
Robert Downey Jr and Zach have a good chemistry involved with this movie, its theme reminds me of planes, trains and automobiles with Steve Martin and the late John Candy. If you loved that movie you will definately love Due Date, poor Peter's goal is to get home to his pregnant wife and encounters Hollywood (Zach) in an airplane Peter gets shot by an air marshal they both get kicked off the plane put on a no fly list and Hollywood talks Peter into riding along with him and his dog sonny to L.A Peter can't rent a car because his wallet is still on the plane or so he thinks, the trip involves many hilarous moments from a freak car crash which Peter suffers a broken arm to being arrested at the boarder for drugs to getting accidently shot by Hollywood. This is true enjoyment I loved the dog he was great!Due Date

I enjoyed it! Very funny.
This is a classic slapstick, tough luck comedy story involving a road trip from East to West coast.

In a nutshell: an expectant father is flying from ATL to LA when he crosses paths with a odd-ball guy who ends up getting them kicked off the airplane for suspicious behavior. In the process, he "loses" his wallet and, by a mixture of circumstances, has to travel across the county with the same nutcase who got him thrown off the plane. During the journey, they get into a mix of trouble.

What I liked: Zach Zach Galifianakis is really funny throughout -- great scenes and acting. The obliviousness to societal "norms" is what makes it funny. As you see in the preview, Robert Downey Jr.'s character is telling a sad tale of his father leaving him as a child. After hearing it, Galifianakis starts cracking up laughing and says something about how his father would never do that because he loved him.

Disliked: Some of the craziness is overdone; needed more...

Mercury Undercover

sobering
This documentary is a sobering expose on the use of mercury "silver" amalgam filings by the US dentistry. You'll see how and when it began, the damage it does, how little the FDA does, and how to undo it. It will make you want to find the nearest mercury-free, biological dentist to have your mercury amalgam fillings removed.

Open Wide and Say Awe
I have had problems with my teeth since I was a child. The day I was introduced to chocolate was my downfall. Over the years I've had abscessed teeth, cavities, root canals, bridges, crowns, root planning and extractions. I have so much metal in my mouth, I can't get on an airplane with out being wanded by the TSA Gestapo. It was during my first root canal that I wondered why they were taking the extra precautions of a rubber dam placed around my tooth, an oxygen mask over my nose, an oxygen mask over the dentist and his assistant faces. When everything was done I asked them what all that was for. They told me the amalgam filling they had to drill out was considered toxic waste. After watching "Mercury Undercover", I now understand what they mean by toxic. For the FDA to admit to Amalgam fillings with Mercury to be toxic would be tantamount to the US government admitting to the presence of alien life in the universe. This movie will open a few eyes and a few mouths.

foundational problem for many Americans
This video is very telling. I sometimes wonder why we pay the FDA salaries. If a dentist is taught in dental school that they can't touch mercury directly or breathe it in preparation of fillings, well how in the world can it make sense that dental patients have their mouths full of it, run hot beverages over it, crush down their foods with it and then if they have the courage to have it removed, they don't have their mouths isolated and noses and eyes covered in the procedure just like the dental professionals do? You have to go to a biological or holistic dentist to get basic safeguards in your removal procedures! What?! Why don't all dentists have to abide by these patient safeguards? I'd have a lot more faith in government if they would deliver on the regulatory safeguards they boast. As it is, it's just shallow promises with little to no protection delivered, much like the pink slime in our kids' school lunches...It's well past time that Americans stopped waiting for other people...

Love and Death

Hot cockles and wheat
For me, "Love and Death" bridges together the slapstick satire of Woody's early movies with the grand verbal wit of the later movies. It never falls into the trap of relying too much on the former, and its reliance on the latter produces some of the silliest Woody dialogue I've ever heard. But it's the perfect mixture between the two that makes this my pick for funniest Woody Allen flick. So far.

I've always felt that the context (Russia in the 19th century and the Napoleonic Wars) and the content (pre-existentialist philosophy) were fine targets to satire. The opening scenes, where Woody as narrator introduces his screwball family, are truly looney-tuney. And the scenes where Woody (Boris) and Diane Keaton (Sonja) talk philosophy, serve more to make fun of the ridiculous gibberish they are engaged in than to further the philosophical discourse. The truer philosophical discussions come in the form of setup-punchline jokes delivered later on ("If it turns out...

Woody's Best
Over the years, this is one of the Allen films that I most often revisit. It truly gets better the more times it is seen. The dialog is brilliant. The interplay between Allen and Keaton is perfect. I also think it is Diane Keaton's best role as she has the opportunity to exercise her wonderful comic touch and timing. Each scene contains lines that have become classics: Allen; "I heard voices". Keaton: "I was praying". Allen: I heard two voices". Keaton: "I do both parts". The dialog is layered and the Russian literature references are very funny. This is a film treasure and certainly ranks with the great comedies of all time.

How about a nice big bowl of sleet?
Woody Allen outdid himself by taking history and humor where it had never been before. When I first saw this film in the mid-70's, I was not quite up to speed on my historical references and dry saracastic wit. Five years later I saw it a a repetory film theatre, and laughed so hard that I dropped my over-priced concessions all over my lap. I have laughed at many a Allen film, but "Love And Death" works on so many levels that it just kicks your "laugh trigger" into overdrive!!!

I wish I had this mans smarts...I am amazed at Allens twisted weaving of story-telling and one-liners..My favorite is when he is in training and the seargent says "From now on you'll clean the latrines and the mess hall" Allens response: "Sir, how can I tell the difference?".....Hilarious...

I've seen this film dozens of times, and it simply doesn't get old..Allen has proven once again that if a joke is TRULY funny it can be repeated over and over again and have the...

The Black Clock of Time [HD]

The Fun Continues
This show kept up its high quality in season three with the same trio of characters being at the center of the action. This is a show I would recommend seeing in order but it isn't absolutely necessary. However, it helps because you see the initial friendship between Jonathan and George expand to include the comic book creator. Jonathan's detective duties have increased and he gets himself into as much trouble as ever with this unlicensed occupation. Time and again the other two are called to come save him from some job where he's about to die.

For anyone unfamiliar with the show, Jason Schwartzman plays Jonathan. He is a novelist but also increasingly an unlicensed private investigator who picks up his clients off Craig's list. His friend who is his age is Ray (Zach Galifianakos) He is a comic book writer and often dresses in his character's caped costume. He has a loyal band of fans and followers. Jonathan's other friend is George, a former magazine editor who...

Here's for Quitting While You're Ahead
As anyone knows who read my reviews of Seasons One and Two, I have been a cheerleader for "Bored to Death" ever since it came out. I adored Season One, thought Season Two was brilliant, and Season Three...well...

I hate to be a wet-blanket. I so deeply loved this series, and had such high hopes for Season 3 after waiting an INTERMINABLY long time for it, that perhaps disappointment was the only reasonable end to this love affair. But I simply could not get into Season 3. Ray (Zak Galifianakos) got on my nerves. What used to seem to be hilarious quirkiness and insecurity just began to seem like annoyingly exaggerated immaturity. Jonathan (Jason Schwartzman) was as adorable as ever, but seemed to be lost in his own cuteness. There were some clever scenes -- the one in which he discovers his paramour was really his sister comes to mind here -- but more often, Jonathan's considerable charm seemed wasted. The only character that didn't disappoint was George (Ted Danson)...

Such a shame it was cancelled
This show is witty, silly, and smart -- a great watch. Such a shame this show was cancelled, although three seasons is not a bad run all in all. After watching all three seasons in an embarrassingly short amount of time, I think it might be time to start reading some of Ames' books.

The Operative

Amusing, Romantic Action/Adventure Flick
Primarily this film is action, adventure and intrigue. Crossing and double crossing. Who's allied with whom and why. But on another level, what another reviewer called bad acting is really ingenious, self-effacing humor. At heart, it's also a romance with a happy ending. I watched this film because the female lead, played by Teryl Rothery, is one of my favorite actors. She did a great job with a character who got to show more emotional range than one might expect for "the girl" in a film of this genre, but in the end (and along the way!) I enjoyed the story and the characters. Teryl's work made me pick it up and the quality of the film as a whole meant I watched the entire thing rather than fast forwarding to her scenes. (I have no patience for bad films!) The line of comedy for a film with so much "serious" intrigue and shoot-'em-up action is indeed a hard one to tread, but The Operative does it well. Worthwhile entertainment with plenty of action as well as a subtle dose of heart...

DOUBLE DOSES OF THE BOZ
In THE OPERATIVE, Brian Bosworth gets to play a double role...one of an ex-CIA operative screwed by the government, and a flashy Texas billionaire. While Brian will probably never see an Oscar on his mantelpiece, the durable action star has learned to at least put life into his characterizations and take the punches he so often gets. Brian is bogged down in this one though by a confusing, inarticulate script and Russian dialogue that tends to hinder the understanding of what's going on. A subplot involving an ambitious FBI agent adds a little color to the proceedings. There's enough action, however, to keep you entertained and by the end of the movie, the plot's maelstrom almost makes sense.
A good time waster, if nothing else.

The Operative
This movie was shot at my house in Victoria.Bought it for review of interior of house. The acting is marginal and the script was less. No wonder it did not get on the big screen.

In or Out

Excellent NYC Show!
The first thing about this show - which HBO has done before really well - is showcase the electricity of New York City. It is a fun show in which you can vicariously experience the rush of trying to make it in the big NYC. The acting is on point, the story is engaging and you also are able to enjoy Kid Cudi on HBO. I truly hope for more of this show in the future as there truly is nothing else like it on TV.

WHY?!?!
why was this show canceled? honestly!? it was a very good show that vaguely resembled entourage!!!! it was an awesome and short lived! the show should have at least been given a third season to give us some closure rather than just abruptly ended with a season arc!

Inspiring
Love the young cast, the fashion! One of my favorite characters in the sexy red head girl, and the young Latino broths (Kim). I don't care much for the rasta monster crew. The leader is funny, but I see them having their own show. Overall I like it a lot, and can't wait for a new season

Yoga Journal's Yoga for Well-Being

Excellent Yoga Video
I am a yoga teacher and have been practicing for 7 years. This yoga video has superb instructions and guidance. It never makes you feel overwhelmed - very calming. It is in 3 parts. You can do them all at once or break them into 3 individual sessions. I highly recommend this video for people who are focused on stress reduction and help with nervous system.

Nicely Paced and Relaxing
Some of these poses may be a bit of an exercise for a beginner (I had practiced yoga before but hadn't in a while and had to work to achieve the full form for some of these poses), but once you get practice with them, everything in each of the three sections is soothing and relaxing. It's also helped to open up my upper back and shoulders, where I carry most of my physical tension, which has been fantastic.

Good hour practice
I enjoyed the stretches. I felt they were not too difficult - as one who mostly practices at home with videos. I rented this - I'll probably buy it. The backs of my legs felt worked out the next day and my neck and shoulders felt lovely and loose after I finished.

Great show...hope there is a Season 2!
As the spouse of a S.W.A.T Officer / Army Reservist (currently on his 4th active duty tour overseas), I loved this show! I thought the "celebrities" were very respectful toward the military operatives, and it seemed to be a very eye opening and humbling experience for them. They took this opportunity very seriously and every one of them said it completely changed they way they view our brave men and women in uniform.

I honestly think that the critics who negatively reviewed this show, did not watch it to the end. There was a HUGE amount of humility, and at times even tears, in the eyes of the "celebrities" as they talked about how impressed they were with the Operatives on the show and how much they respected them for their service and sacrifice for our country. They appeared truly grateful for the experience of being on the show and getting to have even a small glimpse at what our military does to ensure our safety and freedom. Taras Bulba

Put your faith in your sword and your sword in the Pole!
One of my all time favorite movies. Functions on three important levels. A powerful love story between Yul Brynner and his two sons, a desperate love story between one of his sons, Tony Curtis, and a polish noblewoman, all against a backdrop of steppes warfare. When all three elements collide, it becomes a haunting movie whose ending will have you in tears. Huge cavalry battle scenes-the best ever portrayed on film. Cossack brotherhood sworn to avenge the betrayal of Imperial Polish invaders, this is an adventure addicts delight. Waited a long time for this one, along with Solomon and Sheba and the great El Cid...Now where's Fall of the Roman Empire and 55 Days at Peking??Bloodspiller: Book One: Warriors of Palahia Series

Rousing, Moving, Brynner/Curtis Epic
Finally, the much-loved version of Gogol's Taras Bulba has come to DVD. This grand, large-scale production manages to entertain with great action sequences while moving the viewer by telling the story of founded in love.

Taras Bulba, played by Brynner, is a great Cossack leader who fights with the Polish who continue to take more and more Cossack territory. His young son, Andrei, played by Curtis, is the only thing he loves as much as he does his people and his country. But when Curtis falls in love with a Polish girl, and sides with the Polish, he sets the stage for conflict and tragedy.

Bulba loves his son, his people, his way of life, and his country. Andrei loves his father, but also loves the Polish girl. In the midst of a great adventure story, Taras Bulba manages to be a story about love, and the great sacrifices and challenges love causes us to make.

This is a great movie, and very much deserving of a high-quality DVD release.

Great DVD release
This was one of my favorite movies when I was eight years old. The theme of a son rebelling against his father was compelling to me even at that tender age. I thought Tony Curtis was very cool, and Christine Kaufmann was gorgeous.

As an adult, this film is more than a bit silly in places (particularly the strangely inappropriate musical interludes) and Tony Curtis is hardly convincing as a Cossack, but while the dialogue is often corny and the acting largely sub-par, it succeeds as spectacle, especially in the Ride to Dubno. The theme of Nikolai Gogol's story is still a strong one, although this is hardly a straightforward adaptation of the book. (Gogol's story begins with Andrei's return from Kiev, about 45 minutes into the movie. Also in the book, Andrei and Natalia never meet in person. He falls in love with her when he sees her on the battlements.)

The DVD is a superb anamorphic widescreen transfer with bold, vivid colors and a crisp, sharp picture...

Thirty Something [HD]

The Volume Debate Continues: 16 More Episodes, Half A Season And Half The Price
Quick Take: Essentially, this is half a season for half the price. A non-sale, non-discounted price of 19.95 fits in line with almost six hours worth of DVD content. A full season, had it been released that way, would simply have doubled the asking price.

Last year, History and A&E Television made the dubious decision to start releasing Volumes of their most popular shows as opposed to Seasons. I was one of the most vocal opponents of this move and some of my scathing tirades can be found on those initial releases. In truth, though, I have nothing against the idea of volume releases (especially for shows that aren't held together by continuing plot threads) as long as three things are clear:

1) They need to be priced according to content and no more expensive individually than a season set would be.
2) Don't start releasing Full Seasons and then switch tactics mid-stream to confuse unsuspecting buyers.
3) If it isn't a season, all content needs to be...

great content
I rated content 5 stars - however be careful , Volume 5 - ( IS NOT SEASON 5 ) it contains 16 episodes of season 2 which comes to 63 cents per episode being a good bargain.

Why are morbidly obese tattooed motorheads / gun freaks who trade verbal abuse and haggle with customers so FASCINATING?!
This is perhaps the most popular show on cable. I dunno, maybe it's because this crew reminds people of family businesses they know, just as it takes me back to 50-some years ago, working with my brothers in our curmudgeonly uncle's store. For whatever reason, the Pawn Stars are much more appealing than I would have imagined if someone had just described the people and goings-on in this large 24/7 Las Vegas Harrison-family-run pawnshop to me. The grumpy "Old Man," who shares my 1941 vintage, joins his engagingly merry wisecracking smartassed but equally knowledgeable son Rick and somewhat more serious but financially more venturesome grandson Corey in (when the Old Man isn't dozing in his chair) trading barbs, jibes and cheap shots (with about 25 bleeps per show), along with ganging up on the mascot Chumlee, a longtime friend of Corey's with a great fondness for chicken wings and items he deems "AWESOME." Shattered Hopes: The True Story of the Amityville Murders - Part I

A Total Mess
If you love unsubstantiated conspiracy theories and revisionist fantasy all wrapped up in an amateurish documentary which drags on for way too long, then you'll love this movie.

Ronnie DeFeo confessed to killing his family back in 1974. He confessed to the police and he confessed again in open court during his trial. Pretty much an open and shut case, even though (as with many murders) one can only guess as to the motivation.

In the years since, he has tried desperately to get out of jail, and, like many prisoners, he has blamed his crimes on a multitude of other people, offering the public many different fantasy stories about "what really happened that night."

This documentary is based on one of those wild stories. Nothing wrong with that. Trouble is, however, the audience is force-fed this fantasy as if it were the absolute truth.

What was once pretty much a cut & dry case is now a bizarre entanglement of alleged abusive parents, mob...

Conspiracy theory played as fact
Running just shy of two hours, Shattered Hopes is the only Amityville product to feature NO ghosts and NO murders! With pretensions to be more than just a fan-made look at the story which spawned The Amityville Horror - Part I of this "Three part trilogy" (!) will eventually grow into a 6 hour epic of THE UNTOLD TRUE STORY... of which this disc is just the beginning!

However, it's mostly based on fabrication...

This is conspiracy theory played as fact. Shattered Hopes asks us to swallow the tale that Ronald DeFeo had a secret wife and fathered a secret child BEFORE the crime, and the police, defence, prosecution and Judge all hushed it up..!

Geraldine, the "wife", gets most airtime here -- although introduced as a "controversial figure" she's amazingly given the all-clear far too early, and installed as the main mouth-piece. Quickly followed by the director himself, plus the author of the book - all three speak as if they actually knew the DeFeo's...

I feel a little ripped off..
I have to admit the title clearly states that this is part 1, But the story doesn't finish or show you the murder theory they have been building up to for 118 mins. How many incomplete/to be continued documentaries have you purchased,or watched that the next part isn't already available? This is a first for me..

I love Masquerade. Very suspenseful until the very end. What a surprise ending. Didn't see that coming at all. a

Masquerade is great
I wanted Masquerade as its a great movie and it was way less expensive bought in this set. Bad influence isn't bad and Masquerade alone is worth the price.

Budget release
This is not a movie review, but a review of the DVD. This two in one budget release. I got it for Masquerade, a good quiet movie in the Hitchcock vein. The DVD menu options allow you to select the movie and that's about it. You can't even select scenes. So don't have high hopes.

Thunder Alley (1967)

Annette's Swan Song for American International
"Thunder Alley" was Annette Funicello's final film for AIP and although it probably won't rank as one of her fans' favorites, it is nevertheless an entertaining and fast-paced story as well as something of a change of pace for Annette. When this was released in 1967, her successful series of beach party movies had finally run its course as times were changing and light-hearted movies with clean-cut teens frolicking on the beach had become passe. Movies were becoming more "risque" both in subject matter and in what could be shown on screen,i.e.,nudity, sex & violence. A rating system would soon be created to deal with this emerging frankness in the movie industry. Since this movie has never been on video before and is rarely even shown on television, I was thrilled when MGM released it as part of its "Midnite Movies" series of sell-thru titles. The box artwork is gorgeous (as are all of the titles I've purchased so far in this series)and the...

Above Average Racing Flick
Fabian turns in a very good performance as a race car driver, much more convincing than Elvis ever was (though some may consider that faint praise.) Annette Funicello looks absolutely luminous, and is very good in a straight dramatic role. Fast-paced and entertaining, with one of the wildest party scenes ever put on film. Above-average AIP effort.

Annette's great BUT....Where is the DVD???
I am giving this movie 4 stars because Annette Funicello is an amazing actress and I love all her movies. I would however like to express my deep disappointment that MGM chose not to release this movie on DVD as they did with all the other "beach movies" they released (Beach Party,Pajama Party, and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini). I hope that MGM will consider a DVD release of this movie so that we can all enjoy this film in the best possible sound and picture quality and also be able to choose between the widescreen and pana scan formats. I personally would rather watch a movie in widescreen format which is one of the main reasons I was disappointed in MGM not coming through on a DVD release. DVD offers quality, great extras, and the ultimate movie experience.

From Noon Til Three / Assassination (Charles Bronson, Jill Ireland)

A Fun Pair of Movies
I purchased From Noon Till Three / Assassination because I wanted From Noon Till Three. Both movies star Charles Bronson & Jill Ireland. Both movies are on one disc. They’re both letterboxed and look great.

I love From Noon Till Three (from 1976, 99 minutes), a humorous western with many fun twists and turns. Bronson is a member of a gang of outlaws planning to rob a bank. He fears the robbery will go wrong and arranges to be left behind at the home of a young widow (Ireland). She is an upstanding lady who wants nothing to do with an outlaw, but he gets her to see things differently. Perhaps they’ll live happily ever after, except . . . things get very complicated.

I’m not as fond of Assassination (from 1987, 88 minutes), but it’s a fairly good story. Bronson is the agent assigned to guard the First Lady (Ireland). She doesn’t want to follow the rules and refuses to believe she might be in any danger. It seems somebody is...

At Long Last! From Noon Till Three
I am so grateful that this fabulous and rare movie was finally made available on DVD and at such a great price. You can't go wrong with the hilarity and humor in this rare Charles Bronson/Jill Ireland comedy. From the first time I saw this movie way back in the early 80's, I have wanted it in my library and now, this many years later, I finally have it. Both movies are on one side of the disc, but picture quality does not suffer. This is a must for any Charles Bronson fan -- you can't go wrong!

Noon Til Three
What a delightful film.
Full of mystery, passion, and mainly imaginative fantasies.
It may start out like a typical western, but it just gets better, more entertaining, and funnier as the film progresses.
I loved it so much I bought three extra copies for good friends

National Parks Exploration Series - The Great Smoky Mountains: Crown Jewel of the Appalachians [Blu-ray]

National Parks Exploration: Smokey Mountains
Very well presented, good history information, photography is great. I have all the National Parks Exploratin DVDs (8 to date), all are very good. One problem: They leave you wanting more.
I'll continue to purchase and enjoy these. Some (Everglases, Smoky Mountains) cover a park (and area) that don't get the coverage of the big parks.

Good but could have been better
Love the Smoky Mountains so I am letting you know up front I am going to be biased. There is a dearth of high quality video of the Smokies out there so I jumped on this when available. Overall the presentation is fine but could have been better with more shots of the actual mountains instead of "Ranger Bob" lifting logs looking for bugs. The more educational material was good but I was hoping for more views of the beautiful mountains as well as some of the beautiful fall color the Smokies are famous for.

For the price is really is hard to complain however. If you love the Smokies it's a no brainer. If you have only a casual interest then you probably should knock a star or perhaps two off my rating.

Again, I love me some Smoky Mountains so I am just glad to finally have some HD material on the subject.

Some Good Content, Just Okay
This feature has some great shots of flora & fauna of the park. Unfortunately, these great shots seem to get recycled over and over again. While the music is nice, the narration is stilted and dull at times. There is some historical information presented, but as others have mentioned, we need to see more of the park than a ranger turning over logs. There is almost no information on the beautiful byway, just a few shots of cars lined up. The most interesting part to me was the author featured who showed some of the nice views from differing hikes. While filmed in high definition, this comes out as rather amateurish. PBS, History and Discovery do this far better. There is a reason the price is so low, so is the content quality. Just Okay.

Christmas Is Here Again

A NEW CHRSTIMAS TRADITION FOR MY FAMILY!
After reading the reviews here, I decided to go out and buy a copy of this film for my family to watch. It sure put us in the holiday spirit and we all cannot wait to watch it again! The animation is done so beautifully that the characters and scenes just seem to come alive. The voice actors in this movie is what really attracted me to the film - quite a diverse group of actors, all of whom are great and truly shine in this film.

The music is quite catchy and enjoyable, the characters are lovable, and the story is an inspiration that provides humor and hope for all! I'm so glad that the film brought in a way to describe what the holiday season really is all about. Go out and buy this film! I know it will be enjoyed by my family for many years to come; it surely will not disappoint you this holiday season! Proudly give this 5 Stars!

A marvelous new holiday tale
This is an enchanting new animated special that you'll have to see. In this star-studded tale, the story of Santa's magic sack of toys is told--including, for the first time, the truth about the black coal he delivers to bad girls and boys. ('Tis true!). The character designs and animation are terrific and bright, the songs are hummable and with talents like Shirley Jones signing (Mrs. Claus), you can't go wrong. Loved the elves. Loved the bear. The movie has magic, humor, and most of all....heart. A really neat presentation that the whole family will enjoy at Christmas time. It'll get you in the mood. It's a new classic just waiting to be discovered.

1 star because 1/2 star rating is not an option...rental at best
Thought this would be a good holiday movie to watch with the family so I rented it. Glad I did because this movie is lame. Basically Santa's magic toy "sack" has been stolen by some evil villain that hate's Christmas so Santa is cancelling the holiday. A young girl and a couple other characters set out to find Santa's sack and save xmas. There were three main things I REALLY disliked about this movie:

1)The Music. If I was a music teacher and this was what my class produced, F- for everyone. The songs are not catchy at all and seem like they were made up as the people went along. Not to mention all of them sound the same: background orchestra music with person "singing" in almost a talking voice. Lastly, the songs drag on (and I mean draaaaaaaaag) for several minutes. At the end of each one came a sigh of relief that it was over. I'd rather be punched in the ear by someone wearing brass knuckles than have to sit through another verse of music from this movie...

Foreign Intrigue / Quiet American

Fair prints of two smart '50s thrillers
TGG, a distributor known for re-releasing a number of films in the MGM catalog with often shoddy results, presents a pair of surprisingly cerebral thrillers from the late 1950s in this single-disc set.

First up, the generically titled 'Foreign Intrigue' (premiering on a Region 1 DVD) is actually a very stylish, Sheldon Reynolds-produced Technicolor mystery-noir that owes much of its appeal-- via quirky characterizations, rich and exotic locales, glamorous women, the juxtaposition of peril and humor and the use of abstract camera angles in service of a red-herring-filled plot-- to Hitchcock. Lead Robert Mitchum rarely has embodied the kind of vitality he showcases here; it's his 'Charade' and, as such, is lots of shifty fun. 4-plus stars.

Second we have Joseph Mankiewicz's adaptation of Graham Greene's 'The Quiet American.' It's a fantastic Cold War character study that skewers the West's Communist-sympathizing intelligentsia and its unwillingness to...

A no-brainer for any fan of classic cold war intrigue
Especially at this steal of a price. "Quiet American" (the 1958 version here, not to be confused with the recent remake) has been issued on DVD in the U.S., but not "Foreign Intrigue." Excellent widescreen transfers. Keep 'em coming, MGM-UA!

Excellent quality
This is a great double feature of two 50s movies starring Robert Mitchum and Audie Murphy. First of all, the quality of the images are great with both of them being in Widescreen. There are no special features, trailers, no other languages (subtitle and audio) and only one sided disk. TGG Direct has some deal with MGM & Fox to put some titles on DVD and they haven't disappoint me yet. "Foreign Intrigue" (1956/color/100mins), stars; Robert Mitchum, Geneviève Page, Ingrid Thulin, Frédéric O'Brady and Eugene Deckers. "The Quiet American" (1958/b&w/122mins), stars; Audie Murphy, Michael Redgrave, Claude Dauphin, Giorgia Moll, Bruce Cabot and Richard Loo. Overall this a great set of movies and I would recommend it.

How To Stuff A Wild Bikini

Back to the 60s
Frankie & Annette MGM Movie Legends Collection (Beach Blanket Bingo / How to Stuff a Wild Bikini / Beach Party / Bikini Beach / Fireball 500 / Thunder Alley / Muscle Beach Party / Ski Party)
I am a disabled man in his 60s but for a couple of hours, while watching these films, I am young again in the 60s. Once again I feel the excitement I felt and for a few minutes dreamed the dreams I had back then. I would give anything if a time warp suddenly transported m back to those carefree days.

Midnite Movies boxed up
These are the 4 Midnite Movie Double Features of AIP Beach Party films that were released a few years back. I enjoy being able to sit back and watch the surf nonsense. Eric Von Zipper is king. Shame they don't run these as afternoon flicks in the summer on WLVI in Boston. Also a shame they didn't create a double feature of Pajama Party and Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine.

MGM fixed How to Stuff a Wild Bikini. The original double feature release (with Beach Blanket Bingo) claimed it was a Scope transfer, but it turned out to be the pan and scan. Luckily the folks in quality control have put the Scope verion on this flipper. Enjoy the full version of Annette hiding her baby belly.

Beware!! This collection is not entirely widescreen!
Just to let all potential buyers of this set know. This set is NOT entirely widescreen/letterbox.
It says the entire set is letterboxed/widescreen:
1.On the Amazon website
2.On the back outer cover of the set box
3.On the slipcase covers(inside)
4.And it is stamped on each DVD!!
The bad apple in the bunch is "How to Stuff a Wild Bikini".Specifically the DVD starts with the familiar box that this movie has been "formatted to fit your screen"....uh-oh.The credits then roll and they are letterboxed.....whew!!
But then the movie rolls......FULLSCREEN!!
I unfortunately have had to return my copy for just this reason.I can see Amazon not realizing this but MGM has to take the fall for this, plain and simply.Either a mistake at the factory OR a deception....you choose.

The Locusts / Wicker Park (Vince Vaughn, Joshua Hartnett, Paul Rudd, Ashley Judd)

Both movies were great
Anything with Ashley Judd is usually worth watching as she is such a talented actress and pretty too! But Vince Vaughn was surprising good and handsome too. Kate Capshaw was great in her character as well.

I had seen Wicker Park before and already knew I would like the movie. Josh Hartnett is a wonderful actor and I've never understood why he isn't more sought after.

Great to watch and learn
My three kids really enjoy watching this show. I like it too as the characters seem respectful and the kids learn about the dinos. And I learn how to pronounce the names from them! :)

Kids love it
My 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son love this show. It's a cute and clean show that is entertaining for the kids.

Dinosaurs and Trains - the perfect show for little boys
This is a very entertaining, yet educational program. My son is two and it keeps his attention the entire time. I can even tell that he's picked up some vocabulary from it, so I highly recommend it!

My Little Chickadee

Please Don't Listen To The Complainers...
I purchased this set last week without having read any reviews previously. I only knew that I was a fan of Mae West and that I wanted a nice collection of her films. However, before I even put in the first DVD I sporadically decided to read some of the reviews for this set on Amazon just for kicks. One reviewer here claims that the sound is horrible, that the picture is garbage, and that Warner Bros. is putting out "trash" sets. Well first of all, this is not a Warner Home Video release. This set is from Universal Studios despite the fact every film contained within originated from Paramount Studios... I digress. Expecting the worst, I popped in the first disc. The movie begins. The sound is clear. The picture is clear. It doesn't shake and there seems to be very little grain on the image aside from the usual specs that grace older films. Personally, I find a bit of grain/debris to be somewhat charming and enjoy products looking "of their time" so to speak. Why, even mono sound is...

Sooooo Close!
I have been waiting years for "It's a Gift" to make it onto DVD, and it would appear that my wish will finally come true with the release of this set. I will undoubtedly buy the collection, but I already have the Criterion version of "The Bank Dick" (and also their great release of the collection of 6 short films), and "Chickadee" and "Honest Man", while crowd-pleasers, never made it onto my list of must-see Fields films. I, like many others, am baffled by the choice of "International House" for inclusion, as Fields probably only spends about 1/30th of the time on screen, but if owning it is the price I must pay to see a great copy of "It's a Gift", then so be it!

I also hope that enough people buy this to prompt additional releases of some of the other pure Fields vehicles like "Man on the Flying Trapeze", "The Old Fashioned Way", "Never Give a Sucker an Even Break", and "Poppy". (Now that would make for a nice boxed-set!)

For me, Fields's comedy is still...

YES, YES, YES!! About time!
Well THANK YOU UNIVERSAL!!! It's about time!!! W.C. Fields is one of THE greatest comedians EVER, yet his catalog has been grossly overlooked. I can be certain with Universal issuing these the quality will be top notch. Criterion had already issued The Bank Dick, so I'm not sure why it's on here too, but I won't complain as the other 4 are certainly worth the price of admission!

Now, PLEASE continue to release the many other Fields movies that are out there. I'm really hoping this is only 1 of several volumes that will be issued.

Any and all Fields fans should buy this, buy another 1 or 2 for gifts to family and friends, the better this release does the better chances of more to follow!

And if you haven't seen Fields ever??? You have to buy this, this man is one of THE building blocks of all modern comedy!

MUST SEE CLASSIC CINEMA! Fields slow burn style of comedy is a drastic opposite to today's modern, cheap, "fast food" style of comedy...

Along Came Jones / Fury at Showdown (Gary Cooper, Loretta Young)

Two Great Westerns
This was a gift and I love both movies. First of all these transfers are great. TGG Direct did a great job on these two movies. Both movies are in Full frame format, B&W and there are no special features or other audio language and no subtitles. Plus "Fury at Showdown" has never been on DVD and this is it's first appearance.

"Along Came Jones" (1945/90mins)
Gary Cooper, Loretta Young, William Demarest, Dan Duryea, Frank Sully; Directed by Stuart Heisler
"Fury at Showdown" (2957/75mins)
John Derek, John Smith, Carolyn Craig, Nick Adams; Directed by Gerd Oswald

Overall this is a nice set and I would recommend this to any Western fans or fans of these stars.

Entertaining, but not great
I bought this DVD for the Gary Cooper movie, Along Came Jones, as I had never seen it. Gary Cooper is one of my all-time favorite actors. The film is entertaining, but is not a great film. If you like Gary Cooper, you will watch it for his lightly humorous performance. It is a comedy of mixed-up identities, but with some western violence (guns, shooting, death) thrown in as well. Loretta Young is beautiful; William Demarest is the typical western sidekick; and Dan Duryea plays his usual wonderful, evil villain character. If you don't like westerns, or, if you don't know who Gary Cooper and Loretta Young are, then you probably will not like this film. I recommend it to other "old folks" who remember Cooper, Demarest, Young, and Duryea and who can still enjoy a film of the former type, without the modern special effects.

Love Along came Jones
Along came Jones is a funny and well done western. Fury at showdown is not worth seeing. I bought the pack because it is cheaper to buy this way that just along came Jones.

Pawn's Move

All Things Work Together.....
It's a love story set in a small town USA. A young man who has a left a small town after the loss of an older friend....he died. A young woman who left another small town when she called off a wedding because the groom wasn't right for her. They both arrive in a third small town on the same bus. They each get jobs and begin to take notice of each other. The interest grows and there are a couple of hiccups in the growing relationship. It's positive feel good movie that was very refreshing for me. I really enjoyed it!

Wonderful, Charming Movie
I just viewed this on Netflix, and I hope amazon makes it available for viewing for their prime members as well.

An absolutely wonderful movie with old-fashioned values. I really enjoyed the slow, evolving pace. I'm so tired of movies where you're hit with a two-by-four.

What really struck me was the acting by the lead actor Tyler Roberds. Understated, compelling and absolutely wonderful. I enjoyed his acting so much, I had to look him up on google. He does have a website (if sparse!)...but he's young and just starting out, apparently. I sure hope we see more of him.

Excellent movie all around. Highly recommended.

P.S. I'd like to point out that one reviewer practically declared this film to be of Calvinist ilk because of the term "Providence" used in the movie. I'd like to point out that providence is a term used in several Christian denominations, and Wikipedia has a nice explanation of the term.

PAWN'S MOVE
Pawn's Move is a must see. It has a variety of issues that it handles with integrity. The actors played their roles convincingly. Mr. Vetter shows great promise in the movie industry.

Fright Fest

Wished the movies were better
These are loooooooow budget cheesy horror flicks released between the late 90s through the mid 2000s. Sadly, these are mostly not "so bad it's good" entertaining horror. These are generally "so bad, they put me to sleep" horror flicks. They have some notable 80s-2000s b-movie actors like Gary Busey, Rose McGowan, and Anthony Michael Hall. But, unfortunately, these stars couldn't end up saving these boring movies.

The characters in all these movie are cardboard and mostly unlikable. In most movies, the horror, killing, and suspense don't start til halfway through. Too much time is spent on these pointless subplots. The acting was really terrible. So many people seemed as if they were reading from a cue card or as if they had just read the script the day before filming began. I could have liked these movies but most of them had an irritatingly slow pace. Thank God, I watched these movies on DVD so I could fast forward through some of the nonsense. I wouldn't have the patience...

Fright Fest.......
Devil in the Flesh-Debbie Strand is the new girl in class. At the moment she arrives, Debbie sets her sights on her teacher, Peter, the high school heartthrob. As a checkered past of unsolved murders catches up with her, Debbie's games threaten to turn deadly again.
My review:Pretty good film. Kinda reminds me of the Poison Ivy films, honestly. Having been a fan of Rose McGowan from her Charmed days, this one was a real treat for me. Loved it!

Devil in the Flesh 2-After escaping from a mental institution, Debbie Strong steals the car, money and identity of a college co-ed & heads off to college where she becomes obsessed with Sam, a handsome writing teacher. Perfectly Fine Collection of Chillers
A mixed bag, as all these collections are. But I found the creature feature Night Feeders quite entertaining with a good ending. High School

Fun Stoner Comedy With Some Excellent Performances
I sat down to watch "High School" with no preconceived notions about the movie. All I knew was that Michael Chiklis was in it and that was good enough for me. I can't say Chiklis stole the show here, but he played a part so different than what he's played recently in Vegas and The Shield that my wife didn't even recognize him. Chiklis plays a high school principal hell bent on getting drugs out of his school but of course that becomes impossible to do when honors student and soon to be class valedictorian Henry, played by Matt Bush, decided to toke up for the first time the day before a school-wide drug testing program is implemented.

Henry and his stoner friend Travis, played by Sean Marquette, decide that if EVERYONE fails the drug test then nobody can really be held accountable. Sound thinking, right? Well, in order to get enough drugs to dose the whole student body they have to rip off the local drug dealer "Psycho Ed," played with gusto by Adrien Brody who...

DRUGS: THINK ABOUT IT!,
Hank (Matt Bush) is a high school student who is MIT bound. He has become reacquainted with his junior high friend Breaux (Sean Marquette) who is not MIT bound, and might be classified as a "Stoner." Breaux convinces Hank to share a bone with him. To their surprise the principal (Michael Chiklis with a bad wig) announces a drug test for the entire student body with everyone who fails being expelled.

Hank envisioning his life going down the drain, because what college would ever take a high school kid who got high once in his life, our duo gets an ideal that if everyone was stoned and failed the test, they would throw it out. The brownie bake sale being held the same day as the drug test provides them the delivery method and the film director says, "Okay cast, everyone act stoned."

Sure it was nice to see Lisa Simpson and Booger as instructors and Adrian Brodie as a mentally unstable drug dealer. But as a stoner film goes, this one doesn't measure up. Consider the...

A pretty funny and somewhat original stoner comedy. More like "Girl Next Door" then "Harold & Kumar". Great plot. I say B
"Drugs, fornicating, a grown man singing about his feelings, it's time we win this war, expunge this school of all dope fiends." Henry Burke (Bush) has everything going for him. He has a scholarship to MIT and is in line to be his classes valedictorian. After an accident leads to detention he is brought back together with his old friend Travis (Marquette). They decide to take a break that night and unwind with a joint. After the school's representative in the national spelling bee loses it on TV the principal (Chiklis) institutes a mandatory drug test for everyone in the school. Fearing he will lose everything Henry and Travis come up with a plan. I am not really a fan of "stoner' comedy (I did like the Harold & Kumar movies) but the plot to this and the cast made it seem interesting to me. I was not disappointed. Adrien Brody is very funny as the man they steal from and Colin Hanks is good as a clueless asst. principle but Michael Chiklis steals the movie. Playing a clueless...

Bikini Bloodbath Christmas

The Best Christmas Bikini Movie Ever Made!
Bikini Bloodbath Christmas is the third film in the Bikini Bloodbath series. It's not quite as good as the second in the series, Bikini Bloodbath Carwash, but it still has plenty of laughs and bikinis.
There's really not much of a plot. Just like the first two, there is a psychotic chef going around killing beautiful women in bikinis, as well as a few innocent bystanders. In this one, Debbie Rochon is reduced to a cameo which was pretty disappointing, especially considering she had a good bit of screen time in BB Carwash. Lloyd Kaufman also has a couple of scenes. But the actor who really gets the most laughs this go around is Dick Boland. He plays the "sister" of Debbie Rochon's character. I don't what it is, but whenever a man plays a woman in film or on a tv show it's just comedic gold.
As for the gore, there's really nothing of note other than a disemboweling. All the other death scenes are so quick, that you don't really see a whole lot of red. That's okay though,...

Ilsa The Wicked Warden

Once you've made love with a Gerrrrrrrrrrrrrman woman!
Dyanne Thorne's Ilsa is somewhat of a classic and beloved exploitation character and AnchorBay has put together a solid and extremely good value DVD collection of Ilsa films.

The Nazi exploitation or Naziploitation film genre can be traced back to the early film "The Night Porter" and in typical 70's European film fashion was pushed to limits with films like "Love Camp 7", "Gestapo's Last Orgy", "Beast in Heat" and the epic "Salon Kitty" and various Ilsa clone films like "Desert Foxes" and "Elsa-Fraulien of the SS". These charming films surely offended some people and many of them were banned in some countries.

"Ilsa-She Wolf of the SS" proved that American film makers could come up with an equally political incorrect product. Interestingly "She Wolf" was shot on the set used for tv show "Hogan's Heroes" after the show was cancelled and instead of Col Klink, we have Ilsa as camp commandant. The story is basic: women prisoners are brought in (and stripped for inspection), Ilsa...

Ilsa: Sex, sleaze and sadism personified.
Let me start by saying that Duke's review is totally accurate, and I really have nothing helpful to add to what he said. This review is written from the point of view of someone who had never seen one of the Ilsa movies before I bought the set, so people who are new to these sleazefests may be able to relate.

From what I've heard and read, these movies are textbook examples of 70's grindhouse cinema the likes of which would play in the crime-infested movie houses of NYC's 42nd Street. Watching these films, you can almost feel yourself in the front row of the theatre smelling the marijuana smoke, hoping you don't get mugged, and wondering what exactly those weird sounds are emanating from the rows behind you. In other words, these movies are gutter sleaze that go directly for the shocks and titillation.

Ilsa is played by Dyanne Thorne. For anyone unfamiliar with this actress (as I was), let me just say I was mighty impressed with her talents, both talents to be exact. This was...

Ilsa's outrages, times three
The first film in the Ilsa series, "Ilsa: She-Wolf of the SS," stands as one of the most horrific exploitation films ever made. Even I blanched over the atrocities depicted in the movie. Moreover, it's a rare bird as far as films go because it never loses its power to shock. In fact, I think the first Ilsa movie becomes even more disgusting with each subsequent viewing. Apparently, audiences flipped their cookies after seeing the movie at the drive-in. Word of mouth led to bigger ticket sales, which in turn led to thoughts about a sequel. If you've seen "She-Wolf," you know the idea of a sequel is laughable since Ilsa took a header at the end of the movie. But the wacky world of cinema knows no bounds when the scent of money is in the air, and even the demise of a primary character won't prevent Hollywood hacks from revisiting old ground. Remember the Bobby Ewing dream sequence imbroglio? If they can get away with something that outrageous, resurrecting the deceased Ilsa presents no...

Two Families, Twenty Years, One House: An Ambitious And Overstuffed Six-Part Australian Import
As I understand it, Tim Winton's "Cloudstreet" is virtually required reading in the Australian educational system. It is both studied and beloved as a contemporary masterpiece. When a TV miniseries adaptation was announced, it was met with enormous anticipation. Some claim that this is as solid an interpretation as you're likely to get considering the complexity of the source material. Others have claimed that the series misses the mark somewhat, once again citing that the book itself would be extremely difficult to bring to life. The narrative includes an immense cast, it is spread over several decades, and there is a metaphysical (even surreal or magical) element that oftentimes removes the tale from the land of the conventional. As this DVD release is geared toward the North American marketplace, it's fair to assume that many of those that discover it will not have had the benefit of reading the novel. I, myself, fall into that camp and am looking at "Cloudstreet" from the...

The Plight of Girls and Women in Afghanistan
Even though the Taliban are no longer in power in present-day Afghanistan, girls and women remain marginalized in Afghanistan. I watched this compelling documentary as a free download on the PBS website. It features the story of Sabere, a young woman who was traded by her stepfather to a much older man for his wife when she was only ten years old. The man, named Golmohammed, is known as a wife killer, having killed his two previous wives through violence and abuse, and fearing for her life, Sabere manages to escape, finding haven in a safe house run by a male director and several liberal-minded ladies (they don't wear the burqa).

The documentary chronicles Sabere's life in hiding, as the people at the safe house try to help her get legal counsel so that she may file for a divorce from her husband. Sabere is terrified her husband will discover where she is and kill her. Her stepfather appears as a weak man who can't seem to provide for his family, relying on Sabere's skills...

Navy VS The Night Monsters

LOW BUDGET DRIVE-IN HORROR....
This is a low budget sci-fi horror film that made the drive-in rounds back in the sixties. Mamie Van Doren is actually top billed. It concerns a Navy base in the south seas that finds itself fighting off acid-spewing tree monsters that move around on their roots and only at night. A scientific expedition in Antartica accidentally sent specimans of a life form they discovered to the base resulting in these "Day of the Triffids" like walking trees. Any similarity to that film ends there. Mamie is a nurse on the base and provides the eye candy. The "night monsters" seek human prey of course and they find it. Originally, the film contained a few scenes of fairly gory deaths that were surprising for the time and these were edited out in later prints. At this writing, I was unable to find out if Music Video Distribution was releasing a restored and uncut version. This would be the ideal way to release this film as it could be fun for those who like these old drive-in features and of course...

Be warned: 'Cheesy Flicks' DVD is a blurry VHS-dupe style mess
So I was all excited to see this, but this release from a bunch of clowns called 'Cheesy Flicks' is strictly public domain dreck at a premium price. On Alpha DVD at $5 this might be worthwhile, but not at $10 or whatever... unless you have to have it, like I guess I do. It looks like they just bought some graymarket version at a horror convention and just used that as a source print - colors are washed out, image blurry, VHS streaks... the works! Beware... take care!

Out On A Limb
Omniverous trees indeed! This is one of the best of the worst of all time! The writing alone could have sunk the Titanic it is so bad. Mamie Van Doren may be the eye candy here, but her voice combined with the terrible script will have you hitting the mute button over and over. Anthony Eisley will never be Richard Carlson or Richard Denning (or anyone else for that matter). The special effects are awful. And the attempts at humourous relief are pitiful. But I just can't leave this one alone. It's sort of like Plan 9 in color. And now that I've bad-mouthed it just about every way I can, I would sum up by just saying, "Buy it"! It's more fun than anything else being released this week and you'll have a ball!

Buster Keaton Double Header

Nice to have in the collection
The print of the Railrodder on this DVD look like an older 16mm print and the print of the Silent Partner is pretty clear and sharp. If you don't own a copy of the Silent Partner with Keaton, it is worth the price of the DVD.

Buster Keaton is simply Great
This video contains items that have been in other videos, but the Silent Partner was new to me. Even if the story line has issues, still seeing ol' Buster is worth the price of admission.

Qigong Fundamentals for Beginners

Easy to Follow
I came upon this and decided to watch to see what it was all about -- mostly curious. But as I watched it I found myself standing up and following along. It was easy to follow along and participate. I think it could be watched again and again both to improve on technique as well as for a guided exercise.

very good instruction
Master Tsao explains and demonstrates in a way that is easy to follow. The health benefits of qigong are priceless and practicing along with the video and music makes it more enjoyable. Thank you, Master Tsao.

42nd Street: River To River

New York Ciry, 42nd Street, what else can you say
Having worked in Times Square for 10 years, I found the background and interviews informative and entertaining. Great clips from the 1933 movie (one of my favorites) and the show. The jazz score and vocals was definitely 42nd street.

10 to Midnight and Kinjite (Charles Bronson)

Vintage Golan Globus
Years ago I recorded "10 to Midnight" from cable. The picture quality even of the original on cable was not very good; so, I took a gamble that the DVD might be better and bought it from Amazon. I lucked out: the picture quality is very good. These two movies are typical Golan Globus: the plots are not hackneyed, but spicy, sexy with mild perversions but not dwelled on offensively with women's breasts constantly hanging out; for the era probably pushing the envelope. Gene Davis, who also appeared in "Cruising" does an excellent job. I don't know why he doesn't get at least second billing. These movies are not so bad that they are good like "Toxic Avenger." In my prior reviews I forgot to add "Avenger." They are both refreshing and have spawned many imitations by filmmakers with no imaginations.

i like Broson......period
liked the movies he is a lot older and was not energetic like when he was younger but he is Bronson back when men were men good price and I got it fairly fast so o gave it a 5 stars.

Enjoyed this set
It's nice to get out of print discs like this. Glad to be able to get this set so quickly.

Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo

Hip hop back in the day...
It's time to put your headband and parachute pants on and break out those Grandmaster Flash records for the holy breakdancing trilogy of films. These movies were made pre-Gangsta rap when disputes were settled either on the dance floor or on the mic. Breakin', its sequel, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo, and Beat Street were all released in 1984 and are a fantastic time capsule of their times in all of their cheesy (and in one case not so cheesy) glory.

Looking at it now, Breakin', with its laughably cheesy dialogue ("Blond, brunette - if they're looking for hair why don't they look for gorillas?"), horribly dated `80s fashion (skinny ties! headbands! parachute pants!) and wooden acting, is a harmless, cartoony look at a more innocent time. And let's be honest, that is part of the film's charm.

After the surprise success of the first Breakin' movie a sequel was quickly rushed into production and the result is Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo (great title, btw)...

The Uncut Version
This movie is nostalgic for me. It reminds me of an era that I miss greatly. Many people here criticize its accuracy talking about bad grafitti, acting, love songs, etc. What do you guys mean? I am a New York Puertorican, Newyorican raised in Ravenswood Projects, Queens, Bushwick, Brooklyn and went to school in Spanish Harlem. This was back in the day when NYC was tough. La Familia, Ballbuster, Zulu Nation ruled the streets back then.

So I guess I got the right to say the movie accurately portrays life in NYC in the 80's. Some guy here criticized the love songs. C'mon man. What, people back then in the projects didn't love anyone?, had a girlfriend, etc? I find the movie to be so real that I definitely want to move back to NYC.

I know New York isn't the same. The South Bronx is being renovated. The gangs are gone. All the bombers, Lee jeans creased down the middle and finely pressed and jackets, the pumas and adidas with the thick laces in checkerboard formation,...

Oh My GOD!
I was franticly looking for this movie not more than 6 months ago, cannot find it anywhere! . This is a movie that must be seen and owned by anyone who loves hip hop and it's culture. Unlike the other breakdance movies this one is so well made, not only does it include artist that are the foundation of hip hop such and melle mel, afrika bambaataa and tina b to name a few but it outlines the culture, from dj-ing to graffity and showdowns on the dancefloor. The rocksteady crew are pure ledgens and for them to be in this movie is just a major bonus. I am propably preaching to the converted here but if you are into hip hop or just listen to the music, you have got to get this movie, hopefully it will come out on dvd 'cos the music would absolutely ROCK.

The Mckelvain Family

Educational and funny
I liked very much the whole season, these nannies mean business! the show is fun, you get to learn how to better deal with children and after I saw the last episode in which the family has 23 kids it was even inspirational that mom is amazing. However, I need to mention that there's also a book about Nanny 911 that is the exact same thing as the show..so if you purchase this DVD's then don't purchase the book because it has the exact same content.

Dysfunction of Our Own Doing ... Sometimes You Need Help!
If we think about it, we all might come to the same conclusion as many of these families ... that the dysfunction of our families is our own doing and sometimes you just need help to get back on track. And these families really needed HELP!

Although the techniques used in Nanny 911 are not revolutionary, it is amazing the consistency with which their techniques serve to form order out of chaos and bring balance to these tilted (not twisted) families. These families are selected for their types of problems, still, I am amazed at the variety of family types represented. I am reminded how human we all are and that many of our struggles are shared across class, education and culture: there is much to be learned from our brothers and sisters struggles. These families' humility humble me and motivate me to lower my expectations of perfections, to be a more realistic about the work it take to be a family and raises my expectation as to what is possible. I've learned to keep the...

Good educational DVD
This is a good educational DVD , but supernanny is much better than this. Also all kids are difefent. So not all rules will work for our kids.

'I, Sandee' or 'This Sex. Which Is. Not One.' [HD]

Great final season - real shame they cancelled it.
I thought Hung got off to a shaky start, but found its feet in the second season and really found its stride in this third season which turned out to be its final one. Great to have it on Blu-ray - I just wish I had a fourth season to look forward to.

Unconventional but Ultimately Quite Sweet and Humane
HUNG was fun and unconventional and willing to explore things human and common to us all through less savory channels! Once you got past the concept everyone seemingly wants to think as distasteful, it actually was a wonderfully moral and sweet show, and often outrageously funny. It will be missed.

Awsome
Each season improves. Love the actors and storylines. Hope it continues for a few more seasons. Will continue to purchase
